Roughly 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then located numerous other marked cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state early analysis suggest the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; officials are presently not informed of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking political figure said the attack rendered him speechless and required to be addressed promptly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a shooter targeting residents of migrant background in 2020.
